Gaits to Healing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Temecula, CA. dedicated to restoring wellness and connection to First Responders, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families through equine-assisted learning and therapy.
Our long-term goal is to build awareness of both immediate, and long-term effectiveness of equine-assisted therapy to Military Personnel and First Responders
Your physical and mental health matter.
Cumulative trauma, or the repeated exposure to traumatic events over time, is a significant concern for First Responders, Military Personnel, and Veterans; impacting their mental and physical health. These exposures can lead to conditions like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and burnout. This community of people are particularly vulnerable due to the frequency and intensity of traumatic events they encounter while fulfilling their duties.
Each person in those fields deserve structured, evidence-based treatment that aligns with their distinctive challenges and professional mindset. Gaits to Healing provides an innovative, first responder-focused wellness program that prioritizes equine-assisted therapy (EAGALA model) as the primary intervention.
By integrating experiential therapy, peer support, and mindfulness training, our program eliminates traditional barriers to seeking help while reinforcing resilience, recovery, and long-term well-being.
Additionally, by extending support to families and those in career transitions or retirement, we ensure that first responders receive comprehensive, life-long mental health care in a safe, trusted, and culturally competent space.
We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with your department to develop a customized wellness initiative that supports the health and performance of your personnel.
Why Horses?
Studies show interacting with horses affects human physiology (e.g., lowering cortisol levels, reducing blood pressure) and psychology (e.g., reducing anxiety, increasing empathy).
Horses, being sensitive and responsive, are particularly effective in creating meaningful therapeutic bonds.
Equine Assisted Learning focuses on personal development, leadership, and emotional intelligence through structured activities with horses rather than riding.
